Common Rules 
·            TEAMS WILL BE DRAFTED 1 WEEK BEFORE SEASON STARTS IN AN ATEMPT TO CREATE EVEN TEAMS.
·            NO PLACEMENT REQUEST WILL BE GUARNTEED (SEE ABOVE RULE)
·            TEAMS WILL CONSIST OF A MINIMUM OF 8 AND A MAXIMUM OF 12 PLAYERS
·            AFTER THE TEAMS ARE SELECTED ROSTERS WILL BE LOCKED. ANY LATE SIGN UPS WILL BE PLACED ON A WAITING LIST WITH NO GUARNTEE OF PLACEMENT.
·            NO ALTERATION OF GAME JERSEYS IS ALLOWED. PLAYERS THAT ALTER OR LOOSE TEAM JERSEY MUST PURCHASE A NEW ONE AT A COST OF $15. NO SHARING OF          JERSESYS ALLOWED.
·            NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVIN AFTER THE FIRST GAME.
·            MIAA RULES (INCLUDING ZONE DEFENSE)
·            EACH GAME WILL CONSIST OF TWO 20 MINUTE HALVES RUNNING TIME. LAST TWO MINUTES OF EACH HALF IS STOP TIME. CLOCK DOES NOT STOP FOR FREE THROWS
·            THE EXECUTIVE BOARD RESERVES THE RIGHT TO MAKE DECISIONS WHEN PLAYER, COACH OR SPECTATORS CONDUCT FALLS OUTSIDE OF THE CODE OF CONDUCT AND THEREFORE REQUIRES DISCIPLINARY ACTION.
·            PROTESTS OF GAMES SHOULD BE AVOIDED. UNAVOIDABLE PROTESTS MUST BE NOTED IN THE OFFICIAL SCOREBOOK BY THE COACH MAKING THE PROTEST EITHER DURING OR IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE GAME UNDER PROTEST. PROTESTS CAN ONLY BE MADE IF THE OPPOSING TEAM IS SUSPECTED OF A RULE VIOLATION. PROTESTS INVOLVING JUDGMENT CALLS BY THE REFEREES WILL NOT BE RECOGNIZED. THE COACH THAT LODGES THE PROTEST MUST SUBMIT TO THE DIVISION COMMISSIONER IN WRITING OF THE REASONS FOR THE PROTEST. THE LEAGUE BOARD WILL REVIEW AND DETERMINE THE RESOLUTION OF PROTESTS. ALL DECISIONS OF THE BOARD WILL BE FINAL.
·            ANY PERSON HARASSING AN OFFICIAL, PLAYER OR COACH OR OTHERWISE BEHAVING IN A DISRUPTIVE MANNER MUST BE ASKED TO STOP BY THE COACH. IF THE COACH IS UNSUCCESSFUL THE OFFENDING PERSON WILL BE ASKED TO STOP BY THE “RANKING OFFICIAL” IN THE GYM OR A REFEREE. IF THESE REQUESTS FAIL THE OFFENDING PERSON WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE GYM AND THE IMMEDIATE PREMISES. IF EVERYTHING ELSE FAILS, AS A LAST RESORT, THE GAME WILL BE STOPPED AND THE TEAM ASSOCIATED WITH THE OFFENDING PERSON WILL LOSE BY REASON OF FORFEIT. IF THE OFFENDING PERSON IS THE COACH, THEY ARE GIVEN A TECHNICAL FOUL AND IF IT CONTINUES ANOTHER TECHNICAL FOUL WILL BE GIVEN, THE GAME WILL BE STOPPED AND END AS IS.

Billerica Hoops 3 on 3 Over the Hill League
 
  1. Teams are made up of 6 person rosters. Once the first game is played, rosters can NOT be changed.
  2. Play will consist of two 20 Minutes running time halves.
  3. General basketball rules apply.
  4. Timekeepers will keep track of time and score.
  5. After a defensive rebound the ball must be taken back, past the three-point line (free throw line extended). No Free Backs. After a made basket, the ball must be checked at the top of the key.
  6. Change of possession means any defensive rebound (including an air-ball), a steal, a made basket or a made (or missed) free throw. This is not make-it, take-it.
  7. Half court line is out of bounds. If the ball goes out of bounds, it should be entered with a check at the top of the key.
  8. Each overtime is two minutes.
  9. One pass must be made after checking of ball (player may dribble to enter 1st pass but may not attack the basket).
  10. There is no dunking allowed before or during games. If this occurs during play, the point and possession will be lost.
  11. Jump balls always go to the defense. They do not go to the team that yells “first”.
  12. Shots that hit nothing (i.e., air-balls) which are rebounded by the shooter without anybody else touching the ball is considered traveling and results in a turnover.
  13. The top of the backboard is out of bounds. The sides and bottom of the backboard are in bounds.
  14. An untimed 30-second shot clock is in effect at all times.
 
SUBSTITUTION
  1. Substitutions occur after a made basket or a dead ball prior to the defense checking the ball
  2. Unlimited substitutions.
 
TIMEOUTS
There will be ONE 60 second time-out per team given each half. And one per team for each overtime period.
 
SCORING
  1. All free throws will be worth one point.
  2. All baskets inside the three point arc will be worth two points .
  3. All baskets outside the three point arc will be worth three points.
 
FOULS
  1. During the game if the offensive player feels he/she is fouled, he/she will yell foul.
  2. A player will foul out after five personal fouls.
  3. A team will be in the penalty after seven team fouls.
  4. Offensive team can choose to shoot free throws or retain possession when opponent is in the penalty.
  5. If a player is fouled on a made basket he/she will be rewarded one free throw
  6. If a player is fouled in the act of shooting and misses the shot he/she will be rewarded two free throws or he/she may choose to retain possession. (Two free throws may take up to 1 minute of running time and choosing to keep possession you have a chance to score quickly)

TOURNAMENT RULES

 
PLAYER ELIGIBILITY
  • Each team must have 3 or 4 players on their roster and be registered as a team by the entry deadline.
  • Players may appear on only one (1) team for the tournament.
 
PRE-GAME
  • All games must start with at least 3 players but, can be completed with less.
Teams MUST be at their court at their scheduled time, even if games are running behind.
  • All teams are required to bring both a white and a dark colored t-shirt for game play
SCORING
  • All fields goal are worth one (1) point.
  • Adult Division will have “2 point Spots” from which baskets will count as 2 points.
  • All free throws are worth one (1) point.
  • Games are played to 15 points - win by 1, or 12 minutes. Ties permitted during
  • seeding round.
  • During playoff round, in the case of a tie score at the end of regulation;
  • Overtime 1 - will be played for 1 minute
  • Overtime 2 - the first basket wins.
 
LIVE BALL / DEAD BALL / POSSESSION
  • A coin flip before the start of the game will determine who takes the ball out. The
  • team on the top of the bracket will call the coin toss.
  • If necessary, there will be a coin toss to first determine possession to start each
  • overtime with alternating teams calling the toss.
  • The ball will change possession after a scored basket.
  • On all changes of possession (defensive rebounds, steals, etc.) the ball must be passed or dribbled beyond the Check Line.
  • “Taking back” means possession of the ball with two feet behind the Check Line.
  • All jump balls will alternate possession.
  • For all dead balls, the ball must be checked by an opposing player before it is put into play. The player must pass the ball at the top of the court to begin play.
 
TIME-OUT AND SUBSTITUTIONS
  • Each team is allowed one (1) 30 second timeouts per game. Clock continues to run, except last 2 minutes.
  • Player substitution is permitted during any dead ball situation.
  •  
FOULS AND VIOLATIONS
  • All Youth games Grade 6 & Under, Grades 7-8 and HS will be officiated by BILLERICA HOOPS.
  • All Adult games are self officiated, with the offensive team calling all fouls.
  • Prior to each game teams will meet and agree on foul calling responsibility
  • Every court will have at least one (1) BILLERICA HOOPS Official who is responsible for score & time keeping, but not officiating.
  • On team fouls
  • 1-6, offensive team retains the ball which will be Checked at the Check Line
  • 7-12, award a free throw for all fouls and the ball changes possession if the free throw is made or missed. 13+, award a free throw for all fouls and if the free throw is made or missed the fouled team retains possession.
  • For all the above, if a foul is called while a player is attempting a shot and the basket is made then count the basket, record the foul but do not award a foul shot.
  • If the basket is not made and there are less than 6 team fouls the shooting team retains the ball and must check it back in.
  • The three second free throw lane rule will apply to all offensive players.

PLAYER CONDUCT
Continual misconduct or flagrant/intentional fouling will result in immediate
dismissal of the guilty player or teams from that particular game and/or all remaining
games at the discretion of the BILLERICA HOOPS Official
Fighting will not be tolerated under ANY circumstances and will result in immediate
dismissal without refund.
The team captain is the sole spokesperson for his/her team.
Any questions, complaints, or comments shall be taken up with the BILLERICA HOOPS Court
Official
The judgment decisions of the BILLERICA HOOPS Court Official are final.
